On a winter afternoon in 1948, Frank Roy smiled for the camera on his 1947 Indian Chief in Roy, New Mexico.  Frank was a member of the family for whom the town was named in 1901.  Author's collection.

Horace B. “Horse” Owens served as Lea County sheriff January 1, 1939–December 31, 1942, and again January 1, 1947–December 31, 1950. This photo was taken in 1948 during his second term, which was a period during which Sheriff’s Office personnel provided their own patrol cars. Seen here, left to right, are: Horace B.
